In December 1979, the ship brokerage company was founded by Charles Mallory, Sam Jones, and Charlie Lynch, with expertise in spot chartering, period chartering, and sale & purchase.
1987
The firm expanded internationally through strategic partnerships and contracted the inaugural double hull tankers, including six aframaxes, an STL shuttle ship, and three deepwater drill ships.
1994
Concluded four newbuilding contracts with 12-year time charters for a total deal value in excess of $650MM.
2001
Completed the initial $1 billion transaction by co-developing a new tanker design and securing yard space for multiple vessels with 12-year time charters.
2006
Concluded 78 newbuilding contracts across bulkers, containers, handy tankers, suezmax tankers, aframaxes, and panamax tankers in 2006–07.
2015
MJLF expanded its footprint with the opening of a new Houston office to better serve Gulf Coast clients and markets.
2017
John Stichter became the fourth president, bringing significant investment in technology, people, and processes, and relocating to a new flagship office.
2018
Total newbuilding contracts since inception exceeded 230 vessels across all major shipping sectors.
2024
MJLF continues its global growth with the opening of its Dubai office, strengthening the firm's presence in the Middle East and expanding its ability to serve clients across international markets.
2026
MJLF opened its Athens, Greece office, expanding the firm's Mediterranean presence and strengthening coverage for clients across European shipping markets.
